BusinessWorks, Calgary Chartered Accountants, was founded in 1990 with the mission to help business owners grow and prosper.

Our founder, Steven M. Walker, has been a Calgary Chartered Accountant for 20 years. Steven started his career working for another Chartered Accountant but soon realized that traditional accounting work - preparing financial statements and tax returns - offered little value to clients.

How an Accountant Became a Business Advisor

After many meetings with clients who were waiting for their year end to see how much money they were making, or whether they were making any money at all, Steven knew there was a problem.

Clients, he found, didn't really want an accountant. Sure, they had to deal with the year end stuff. But what they were really looking for in an accountant was a business advisor, someone who could tell them where their business was headed and what to do to improve.

Soon after, Steven founded BusinessWorks to develop a comprehensive set of management tools to give clients real value. The initial response was overwhelmingly positive and the results in clients' businesses were nothing short of amazing. Clients who had a history of cash flow problems or  difficulty improving their profits were raving about how their businesses had been transformed.

Most businesses, Steven discovered, didn't need any major changes. The owners had the skills and ambition to increase revenues. They didn't, however, understand the relationship between revenues, cash flow and profit.
